Write, call or e-mail your Member of Parliament and the Minister of International Trade. Make the message clear: we are counting on them to protect our water. Copy your message to your MLA, and to the B.C. Ministers of Fisheries and Agriculture. The B.C. government has been endeavouring to protect water resources, and warrants evidence of your support. Contact CUPE for information on the Water Watch campaign, and get involved. Phone 1-877-CUPE-H20 (1-877-287-3426). Contact your local chapter of the Council of Canadians (there are chapters now in Victoria, Duncan, Saltspring, Nanaimo, Port Alberni, the Comox Valley and Campbell River). Join with Council members to advance public education and awareness and demand that the federal government "put a cork in NAFTA!"
We believe access to an adequate supply of clean water is a basic human right. Private ownership of water is a clear and direct threat to the health and well-being of all Canadians.
