I Have Another Life After Work

"I have another life after work" -- these words from a fellow employee prompted me to think about my life because of work.

I had reason to be off work for three months because of illness, and I never missed a pay cheque! I am fortunate enough to have sick time, one of those benefits that I am lucky to have. I have also had to get glasses since coming to work here, and that is another benefit. I have also had to have time off for bereavement purposes -- again never missed a pay cheque and as I think of the many benefits that I am so fortunate to have I realize it isn't a matter of luck. It is a matter of strong Union leadership and good negotiations from a few dedicated fellow employees who give so generously of themselves for the benefit of all of us.

I wonder what would happen to all of us if all those involved in the Union were to say, "I have another life after work?" I'm glad that there are some of us who think that we have life because of work and a good one at that.

Just think of the Collective Agreement we have: that was not given to us because we are nice dedicated workers. Everything we have we had to fight for. Don't forget the near strike we had a short while ago. It is an even stronger fight to kep what we have. We have to support the few who do all the work for all of us. I wonder if all those non-union people can say, "I have another life after work."

Let's put the yoU back into Union. See you at the next meeting!
